Georgia’s president, Salomi Zourabitsvili, has said the country’s parliament is illegitimate after October’s election and that she has no intention of stepping down when her term ends in December. Zurabitsvili argued that the presidency remains the only legitimate institution in the country. The president was speaking amid protests in the capital Tbilisi and other cities, which began after Prime Minister Irakli Kobahindze announced this week that Georgia was abandoning accession talks with the European Union.
