The German Association of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (Bundesverband mittelständische Wirtschaft) sees many businesses at a critical juncture due to high energy prices, according to Handelsblatt.
That’s why many companies are against the embargo on Russian supplies, according to a survey conducted by the union. When asked if they would be in favor of an immediate end to Russian energy imports at the cost of higher supply costs, 56% of companies said “no” to gas – and 52% said “yes” to oil.
When asked how much they would be willing to pay more for energy supply in the event of an embargo, almost 48% of companies said they would not pay a premium. About 32% of companies would be willing to accept a surcharge of up to 30% – about 15% could imagine a 50% surcharge. 1200 companies participated in the research. The results were made available to Deutsche Presse-Agentur.
Union CEO Markus Jerger commented. “Understanding between companies in the light of the current political situation is a given – but many simply can not afford to pay even higher energy prices.” The companies needed significant cost relief, he said.
A quick implementation of the measures planned by the government would be a first step. On the one hand, the government had announced relief. In addition, there will be an aid package for businesses suffering from the effects of the war in Ukraine and high energy prices.
