German channels ARD and ZDF start responding again from Moscow, but not for the war in Ukraine

Threatened by persecution, the two German public television channels ARD and ZDF are resuming their response from Moscow, which had been suspended due to new, restrictive media legislation related to the war in Ukraine. From now on, however, they will not refer to the development of the military situation in the country.

Under the new law, false information from the point of view of the Russian government is a criminal act. Indicatively, there is a risk of 15 years in prison if there is talk of “war”, as the Kremlin describes the invasion of Ukraine as a “military operation”. The two German media immediately suspended their broadcasts from Russia, but in the coming days they will start again, with references to the economic, political and social situation in Russia, but not to the military situation in Ukraine, the two stations report. The issue will be answered from other points, it is clarified, while it is also stressed that the two channels reserve the right to re-evaluate the situation at any time.
