German doctors will also vaccinate at Christmas

Increase their fee to 36 euros per injection. The German government is investing in the commemorative installment, and the Novavax product will be available from January.

Despite the reduction in the number of cases, German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach and the president of the State Epidemiological Institute, Robert Koch, warned in a joint press conference in Berlin that the fifth wave of the coronary artery is a matter of weeks. With the measures that have been taken, it has been achieved to gradually bring the wave of the Delta mutation under control, said Mr. Lautebach. “But we have to assume that the Omicron wave can no longer be prevented.” This mutation will develop an unprecedented momentum in terms of the spread of the pandemic, said Mr. Wheeler. The dominant coronavirus mutation in Germany will be in three weeks at the latest. “The celebration of Christmas should not be the spark that will light the fire of Omicron,” he said.

Health Minister and President Robert Koch appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, to limit their contacts during the holidays and to get tested before each meeting, regardless of whether they have been vaccinated or not. Vaccination is a component of fighting the pandemic. According to Karl Lauterbach, the third dose is the best way to avoid serious consequences in case of infection. The protection rate of booster doses is around 75%.

Over 28 million booster doses

In the same press conference, Andreas Gassen, general director of the Federal Association of Insurance Funds, informed that since November 18 until today, more than 28 million commemorative vaccines have been granted. By the end of the year, the government’s target for 30 million vaccinations could be met, said Karl Lauterbach. For this reason, vaccinations will continue to be given on holidays. As an incentive to keep clinics and pharmacies open, the state will pay from December 24 to January 9 each vaccine injection at 36 euros, instead of 28 euros.

The vaccinations in the next period will be made mainly with the preparation of the company Moderna, which will deliver 25 million doses in the country in January. Given that half the dose is enough for booster vaccination, the quantities reach 50 million people. The existing three million doses of BioNTech / Pfizer will only be available for vaccination of persons under thirty years of age. It has not yet been clarified to what extent it will be possible to obtain other quantities of this vaccine immediately. However, the Ministry of Health has already signed an agreement for 80 million doses of BioNTech / Pfizer vaccines specifically to fight the Omicron mutation, which will start to be delivered from April-May. Also, four million doses of the American Novavax vaccine will be available in Germany in January. Since the drug is based on proteins, as well as pertussis or tetanus vaccines, Karl Lauterbach hopes to change the attitude of many skeptics towards vaccination.
