Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) has warned that measures for the coronavirus should not be relaxed too soon.
“Our strategy has worked well so far,” Lauterbach told Bild am Sonntag. With targeted and further measures, it was possible to protect the elderly and those who were previously ill, he said.
“But if we now relax the measures prematurely, we unnecessarily jeopardize our success and risk new dangerous infections and an extension of the pandemic wave. What we have created in weeks, we can bet on in days.”
Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Zender (CSU) comes to a different conclusion, according to Bild.
“After two years with the coronavirus, we all wish we could open a door on the Omicron wall and maybe move from pandemic to endemic,” Zender told Bild am Sonntag. “If we can be sure that the health system will not be overburdened, civil liberties should no longer be secondary to other stages of the pandemic.”
Söder blames the federal government for planning the relaxation and calls for a step-by-step plan: “We need to take further steps to open up culture, sport and trade if the number of hospitals remains stable. “The use of FFP2 masks allows contact restrictions to be lifted. To do this, the federal government must submit a phased plan.”
