German Minister Health: ‘Naive belief that the micron variant is the end of the pandemic’.

German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) told the Welt am Sonntag that general vaccination was necessary because, according to Omicron, a much more deadly variant of the coronavirus could develop.

He finds it frightening how the “coronavirus deniers” have lost every measure and goal. The Omicron variant has changed the situation for many European countries, he notes.

The trend in the number of cases is so catastrophic that states have other things to do besides discussing compulsory vaccination.

“I can understand that,” he said, “but I believe the debate will return to these countries,” said the German health minister.

In fact, thanks to Omicron, the risk of serious illness is reduced, Lauterbach notes.

“But we still need the mandatory vaccination,” he said. The Omicron is otherwise a “dirty back-door vaccination.” One would bet that everyone would eventually become infected and then become immunized, but such an infection would lead to major problems, the German health minister said.

Even if the chances of being hospitalized in Omicron are significantly lower for those who have not been vaccinated, a large number of patients remain. So many unvaccinated people would be at risk of becoming seriously ill or suffering the consequences for the rest of their lives or even dying. That would be a tragedy, Lauterbach told Welt am Sonntag.

In addition, mandatory vaccination is also important for other variants that may still be developed. A micron infection does not necessarily make you immune to the next variant of the virus. The belief that the Omicron variant is the end of the pandemic is naive.
