A police officer was injured on Wednesday morning (22/3) during a raid by the special forces of police (SEK) in the premises of “Citizens of the Reich” (Reichsbürger) in Baden-Württemberg.

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office, as reported by the Athens News Agency, today, Wednesday (22/3), ordered the second search of the homes of suspects for participation in the organization. During a raid on a suspect’s apartment in Baden-Württemberg, the tenant shot and wounded a police officer. The police officer was transported to the hospital, where he is in a stable condition, while the perpetrator was immediately arrested. Five people have already been arrested as part of today’s federal investigation.
The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has been investigating the case for months, with the “suspicion of the formation of a terrorist organization”, while considers that the goal set by the “Citizens of the Reich” themselves was “to transcend the existing state order in Germany”, even using “military means and violence against representatives of the state”. According to BILD, the suspects still include active-duty police and military personnel.
During the first raid last December, in one of the largest investigations into the far-right in Germany, 25 men and women were arrested, including the alleged head of the organization, Heinrich XIII of Reuss. The organization has been described by the government as “particularly dangerous terrorist”, with the Secretary of the Interior Nancy Fesser speaking of an “abyss of terrorist threat”. A particular role in the radicalization of the “Citizens of the Reich” is estimated to have been played by the conspiracy organization QAnon, which in January 2021 motivated the mob to storm the US Capitol.
