German Press: Ankara, the favor of authoritarian leaders and NATO

Süddeutsche Zeitung comments on Turkey’s role on the global geopolitical map, observing: “After the new Putin-Erdogan meeting, questions arise. The ‘president of peace’ wants to sell Bayraktar drones to the Kremlin, as well as to Ukraine, to use them in front? Has the Kremlin indirectly given the green light to Ankara’s planned attack on northern Syria, which until recently was blocked by Moscow and Tehran? (…) It is alleged that the leaders of the two states did not talk about arms deals and there was no clear statement even about Syria. One can believe all this, but there is no need (…)

The regional power Turkey is neither militarily, nor politically, nor economically a world power. The US, EU and NATO will raise the question of Ankara’s credibility again. The question is not if President Erdogan will overdo it, but when exactly will he overdo it.”

A conflict that will flare up in the future…

In the new escalation between Israel and the Palestinians, a comment is mentioned in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and, among other things, it notes: “The recent escalation in the Middle East is yet another reminder that the delayed normalization of relations between Israel and the Arab states will not resolve the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians either.” .The latest round of conflicts is related to the factors for which the conflict will continue to flare up in the future (…)

These include, first, local tensions (…) Second, the fact that, when Israel exercises its right to self-defense, civilians are harmed (…) The third factor has to do with the fact that only Egypt can be relied upon (…) As long as but nothing changes in the remaining areas – the influence of external factors, the precarious living conditions of the Palestinians and the inability of the Palestinians themselves to self-govern – tensions will continue to escalate violently.”
