German railway company Deutsche Bahn (DB) has announced plans to resume freight train services to transport Ukrainian grain to German ports for loading onto ships.
The grain will be transported by train to German ports such as Rostock and Hamburg, according to DB.
No details have been released on the quantities that can be transported, but on a weekly basis several train routes are scheduled, receiving mainly Ukrainian grain from Romania.
DB operates trains from Germany loaded with humanitarian aid to Ukraine and these commercial trains are scheduled to be loaded with grain on their return.
Ukrainian agricultural exports totaled about 2.5 million tonnes in June compared with 6 million tonnes of grain per month before Russia invaded the country on February 24.
