German state television networks ARD and ZDF suspend reports from Moscow

Public service broadcasters ARD and ZDF are currently suspending their coverage of their offices in Moscow. This was said by the broadcasters, according to Spiegel. The reason is a new law, the consequences of which one would like to consider first.

“The two public service broadcasters will continue to fully inform the public about what is happening in Russia and Ukraine from their other locations,” she said in a statement.

Following the passage of a new Russian law criminalizing the dissemination of “false information” about the country’s aggressive war against Ukraine, the British BBC, the Bloomberg news agency and the American television network CNN had previously stopped publishing.

As a result of the new law, all information that does not correspond to the Kremlin’s view is considered “fake”. Those who do not comply face high fines, “corrective labor” or imprisonment for up to 15 years, depending on the offense.

Russia had previously blocked Facebook and Twitter is no longer accessible. The list of banned media outlets is growing: Deutsche Welle, the Echo Moskwy radio station, the Meduza portal and the Tayga Info website, which is important in Siberia, are being affected.
