German tourist is arrested carrying historical artifact in scooter in Italy

Italy police reported having pursued a German tourist after seeing him carrying an ancient Roman artifact at a rented electric scooter on Wednesday night in Rome, Italy.

The police arrested the 24 -year -old, who carried the marble base of an old column, which weighs 30 pounds between the feet.

He held the play as he roamed the historic street via Veneto, near the US embassy in Rome.

The archaeological superintendent of Rome described artifact as “historical interest”.

Authorities said the tourist had told that he took the play as a “memory,” but it is unclear if he paid someone for the object.

According to police, the man was not indicted, but is under investigation for “receiving stolen cultural goods.” The name of the young man was not disclosed.

Archaeological experts study the artifact to determine where it was removed.

Tourist attitudes in Italy

Tourists who behave poorly are irritation for the Italian authorities for a long time.

In recent years, tourists have been arrested for driving electric scooters and a Maserati on the Spanish staircase, recording initials at the Roman Coliseum and entering motorcycle in the old ruins of Pompeia.

In February, a New Zealand tourist was fined for diving into Fontana Di Trevi, one of Italy’s oldest monuments.

Earlier this month, an American tourist had to undergo an emergency surgery after being palated in a tower while trying to jump a fence surrounding the former Roman coliseum.
