Germany’s Alternative Alternative Alternative Party leader Alice Weidel asked for new elections after conservative leader Friedrich Merz could not get the necessary parliamentary to become a chancellor on Tuesday.
In a social media publication, Weidel said Merz should immediately resign to make his way to elections. “We asked common sense to prevail,” she said.
“Like AFD, we decided to turn this country upside down. We are ready to assume governmental responsibility,” he added.
“ALS AFD SIND WIR ANGETRETEN, Dieses Land Vom Kopf Auf Die Füße Zu Stellen. Wir Sind Bereit Für Die Regierungsverantwortung. Und Fordern Dazu Auf, Vernuft Walten Zu Lassen. Herr #Merz Sollte Sofort Abtreten. ES SOLLTE DER WEG GEöffnet Werden Für Neuwahlen In Unserem Land! ” pic.twitter.com/gzzochf5p5

Earlier, Weidel criticized the coalition formed by conservatives of CDU/CSU and the party of the current chancellor, Olaf Scholz, the Social Democrats (SPD). “Merz is the first chancellor candidate in the Federal Republic of Germany to disapprove in the first round of the vote. This shows the weak base on which the small coalition between CDU/CSU and SPD, which was defeated by citizens was built,” he said.
Merz conservatives won the national elections in February with 28.5% of the votes, but need at least one partner to form a majority government.
On Monday (5), they signed a coalition agreement with the Social Center-left democrats, which obtained only 16.4%, their worst result in the German postwar German history.
AFD had the best result in history in parliamentary elections, gaining 20.8% of the votes. “Next time, we will be first,” AFD party leader Alice Weidel promised after the result was announced.
