Germany has described as “undesirable” a “significant number” of Russian embassy officials in the country, German Foreign Minister Alena Berbok said on Monday, adding that Berlin would step up its support for Ukraine’s armed forces.
“The images in Bhutan show an unbelievable barbarity on the part of the Russian leadership and those who follow its propaganda,” Burbok said in a statement, referring to the killing of civilians in the northern Ukrainian city, according to Reuters.
“The Federal Government has thus decided today to declare unwelcome a significant number of members of the Russian Embassy who work here in Germany every day against our freedom, against the cohesion of our society,” the German Foreign Minister added.
The German Foreign Ministry has compiled a list of 104 accredited Russian diplomats in Germany.
“We are moving forward with further responses to our partners,” she said.
Moscow is threatening retaliation
Moscow is set to “respond” to Berlin’s decision to deport 40 Russian diplomats, Russia’s Interfax news agency reported on Monday, citing the Russian Foreign Ministry.
