Germany’s domestic espionage agency will temporarily abstain from classifying the Alternative Party for Germany (AFD) as an extremist organization, while awaiting disputes from the acronym, a court said in the city of Colony on Thursday (8).
The agency will not publicly refer to AFD as an “confirmed right -wing extremist movement” until the court decides on a party motion, according to a statement.
The extremist classification announced last week allows the espionage agency to intensify AFD monitoring, for example, recruiting informants and intercepting party communications.
The report of 1,100 pages of the agency’s experts, which should not be publicized to the public, concluded that AFD is a racist and anti -mirror organization.
AFD states that the designation is a politically motivated attempt to discredit it and criminalize it. This Thursday, the lead by the acronym greeted the decision.
“This is an important first step … to combat the accusation of right -wing extremism,” said Tino Chrupalla and Alice Weidel party leaders in a joint statement.
