Germany: ‘Bell’ of funds to increase contributions

This year, one in four people with legal health insurance in Germany will have to pay more, according to a Welt report.

The heads of the largest insurance funds (MRL, GDR) are sounding the alarm: If the government does not react, there is a risk of a further rapid increase in contributions.

More than 1 in 4 of the 73 million people with legal health insurance will have to pay higher health insurance contributions this year.

This was reported by Welt am Sonntag, based on an evaluation of the list of contributions published earlier this year by the Association of Health Insurance Companies.

Respectively, 19 of the 97 legal health insurances (GKV) have increased the additional contribution. These include 9 of the 11 general local health insurance funds (MRLs). Almost 21 million people are insured in these 9 funds.

Only 9 much smaller corporate health insurance funds (BKKs) reduced their contribution at the end of the year.
