Germany: Bjorn Hecke of far-right AfD fined 13,000 euros for Nazi slogan

Bjorn Hecke, a leader of the far-right party “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) was convicted today by a court in the city of Halle for using a prohibited Nazi slogan and was fined 13,000 euros. Hecke, head of the AfD's local organization in the state of Thuringia, had used the phrase “All for Germany” (“Alles für Deutschland”), which refers to Nazi stormtroopers, in a campaign speech in May 2021. court was unconvinced by defense counsel's argument that Hecke did not know that the use of the particular phrase was prohibited. Although he is a professor of history, Bjorn Hecke had claimed in a televised debate that he was not even aware of the connection of the disputed phrase with the Nazi stormtroopers. Source: RES
