Germany: Cancellations and flight delays at eight airports

Cancellations and long flight delays are currently taking place at eight major German airports due to strikes by workers at the passenger safety checkpoint.

Indicatively, the 88 departures of flights were canceled at the airport of Hamburg, as the passenger control department will remain closed throughout the day, while at the airport of Berlin the traffic is very limited, 96 flights were canceled and there are long delays.

Frankfurt Airport, the largest in the country, urges passengers not to even arrive because they are unlikely to catch their flights. On the contrary, “transit” passengers are normally served.

In Düsseldorf, 140 flights have been canceled so far, more than half of what was scheduled for today. The picture is similar at the airports in Bremen, Hanover, Stuttgart and Bonn / Cologne.

The strike declared by the Ver.di union today is characterized by the trade unionists as “warning” and is connected with the collective negotiations that are in progress with the Federal Association of Aviation Safety Companies. Ver.di demands increases of at least 1 euro per hour for employees in the industry.
