Berlin “categorically rejects” Moscow’s threats of retaliation against Lithuania after the Baltic state banned the passage of products subject to EU sanctions from Russia to the Kaliningrad enclave, a German government spokesman said today.
“We urge Russia not to take any action that is contrary to international law,” he said.
The Kremlin said earlier today that EU sanctions were “absolutely unacceptable” and that Moscow was working on measures in retaliation.
The United States has reaffirmed its support for NATO member Lithuania in the face of Russian threats.
