Germany: CDU wins Schleswig-Holstein election show first exit polls

The first exit polls for the local elections in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein show a victory with a big difference for the CDU and its candidate, Daniel Guder.

Specifically, the CDU received 43%, gaining 11 points compared to the previous elections of 2017. Thus, it maintained the lead it had so far and consequently the Prime Minister of the state. In contrast, the SPD suffered a sharp drop of more than 11 points, falling to 15.5%. The party of the Greens marked a distinct increase (+4 points), gaining 17% and the 2nd place. The Liberal Party (FDP) had a significant decline.

The eyes are now on the local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia, the most populous state in Germany, which are scheduled for next Sunday. Polls have so far shown a tie between the ruling CDU and the opposition SPD.
