The German government expressed the belief that the process of ratifying the accession of Sweden and Finland will be completed quickly and without problems – also by Turkey.
“No, we don’t expect any delays. I think yesterday’s NATO summit showed it emphatically, how united the Alliance stands and how fast it moved, considering that the applications were submitted in May and at the end of June they were already accepted. That’s why we hope a fast process of ratification of membership by all 30 NATO countries,” said government spokesman Stephen Hempstreit.
The spokesman also announced that the cabinet approved this morning the decisions of the summits of the Alliance and that next week the ratification of the membership of the two Nordic countries by the Federal Parliament (Bundestag) and the Federal Council (Bundesrat) will follow.
