Germany: far-right, pandemic deniers back Putin, Russian attack on Ukraine

Supporters of the far right and the negative of the coronavirus and the vaccines are found by the Russian attack in Ukraine, according to a research of the first channel of the German public television ARD. Many of them, according to the report, see Vladimir Putin as a “fighter of resistance against multiculturalism.”

“It’s not an invasion, it’s an operation,” he was quoted as saying by supporters of the Russian aggression. NATO and Ukraine “.

The editor-in-chief of the far-right Compact magazine, Jürgen Elzer, even described the attack by Russian forces as “defensive”. “After many days of attacks by Ukrainian forces on the Donbas republics, Moscow is taking steps to protect the population there,” he told ARD. It is also characteristic that the Russian president has replaced the former US president, Donald Trump, in these ideologies. “Putin is hated in the West because he represents an alternative model: he is a patriot and does not hate his country,” writes Compact magazine.

According to the report, many user profiles that spoke of a “coronavirus dictatorship” in Germany are now spreading Russian propaganda about the war in Ukraine. Anti-vaccine Bodo Schiffmann believes that the German government, with its sanctions against Russia, “is destroying the rest of Germany, which was not destroyed by the coronavirus policy.”

The German-language Russian channel RT de frequently rebroadcast the posts of Sifman and the well-known negative rapper Xavier Naidu. According to a study by the Center for Monitoring, Analysis and Strategy (CeMAS), RT de is one of the most important “alternative media” on the Telegram messaging platform. Especially during the pandemic, the Russian channel managed to significantly increase its influence, which it now uses to spread glaring propaganda, says CeMAS head Miro Dietrich.

Other sections of Germany’s far-right scene, such as the “Third Way”, are in favor of the other side and even use the Telegram to recruit volunteers to fight alongside the Ukrainian far-right Azov Battalion. German authorities have been alarmed and are banning well-known neo-Nazis from leaving the country. However, according to the newspaper Die Zeit, the authorities know three German extremists, who have managed to leave the country in order to join the Ukrainian “Order of Azov”.

A spokesman for the interior ministry confirmed the information today, citing “individual cases”. According to the Interior and Justice Ministries, the German authorities generally do not prevent the Germans from fighting with either of the two warring parties in Ukraine, but aim to prevent extremists from taking part in the fighting. The Federal Police Directorates have been informed about this and, if they find suspicious movements, they can prevent them from leaving the country, even by withholding their passport. A similar tactic was followed by Germany regarding the war in Syria.
