Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Bündenbender were diagnosed with coronavirus, the presidency announced earlier today.
Mr. Steinmeier and his wife are fully vaccinated and with the boosting dose, according to the same announcement, they show only “mild” symptoms and are isolated in the presidential residence, while in the meantime all the direct contacts of the last days have been informed. .
The Federal President, after two years of severely curtailing his livelihood contacts, had in the past few days launched a series of visits to regions of Germany, where he meets with local actors and citizens, while next week he was to visit Poland. A few days ago, Mr. Steinmeier had gone to Berlin Central Station, where most Ukrainian refugees arrive, via Poland.
