Germany: Frank-Walter Steinmeier re-elected Federal President

Frank-Walter Steinmeier was recently re-elected Federal President, with 1045 votes, out of a total of 1472 voters, of whom 1437 voted today. There were 12 invalid votes and 86 abstentions.

Alternative for Germany (AfD) candidate Max Ote received 140 votes, Leftist candidate Gerhard Trumbert 96 votes and Free Voter candidate Stephanie Gebauer 58 votes. Mr Steinmeier was elected in the first round of voting, with more than half of the votes cast.

Congratulations to PD

In a post on Twitter, the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou congratulated Frank-Walter Steinmeier on his re-election as President of the Federal Republic of Germany and wished him every success in his duties.

“Warm congratulations to Frank-Walter Steinmeier on his re-election as President of the Federal Republic of Germany. I wish him every success in his duties,” said Ms. Sakellaropoulou in her post.
