With the release of the hostages and the arrest of the perpetrator, the hostage situation in progress in the last hours in a pharmacy in the center of Karlsruhe.
According to Stuttgarter Nachrichten and as relayed by the Athens News Agency, the hostages there were two, while the perpetrator was asking ransom of seven million euros in order to free them. Special police forces arrived at the scene, special negotiators were in constant contact with the perpetrator, while the area was blocked for at least five hours. This particular pharmacy had been targeted a month and a half ago, when an armed masked man broke in to steal a liter of methadone.
According to police, no one outside the pharmacy was in danger during this evening’s incident. In the areas behind the store, however, about six workers had found refuge, who apparently were not noticed by the perpetrator.
