Germany: Lantern and Jamaica Coalitions – What They Are and Who Citizens Prefer

Lantern government coalition with Social Democratic Party (SPD) candidate for Chancellor Olaf Solts “Show” two new polls, in which the candidate of the Christian Union (CDU / CSU) seems to have a significant percentage of public dissatisfaction.

According to “Deutschlandtrend”, the first channel of the German public television ARD, 51% of the respondents are in favor of the SPD – Greens – Liberals (FDP) coalition, which “would be a new beginning for the country”, while only 18% would prefer a “Jamaica” coalition, CDU / CSU – Greens – FDP. 24% do not believe that either of the two coalitions promises this “new beginning”. In addition, one in two voters believe Olaf Soltz would be a good Chancellor, as opposed to the 30% who express the opposite view.

As for his fate Armin Lassett, 66% estimate that the leader of the CDU should resign due to the heavy defeat of his party. Even among Union voters, 60% share the same view. Only 23% of the general population and 26% of CDU voters disagree.

According to the APE-MPE, the picture in the “Political Barometer” of the second channel of the German public television ZDF is even worse, with 59% being in favor of the “lantern” coalition and only 20% disagreeing. 76% say they want Olaf Solz as Chancellor, while only 13% would prefer Armin Lassett.

Of particular interest is the fact that, according to a ZDF poll, 61% of FDP voters and 49% of CDU voters prefer the SPD candidate as Chancellor. In addition, 63% of Germans support Mr. Lassett’s resignation from the CDU leadership.
