Germany: Lindner calls on Habeck to stop gas-fired power generation

Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) calls on Federal Finance Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) to stop the production of electricity with the help of natural gas. “We have to work to ensure that the gas crisis is not followed by an electricity crisis,” Linder told the Bild am Sonntag newspaper.

Therefore, he said, natural gas should no longer be used to generate electricity. “Robert Habeck would have the legal authority to stop this,” says Lindner. Instead, he says, Germany must retain other power generation capabilities. “There are many who argue that safe and climate-friendly nuclear plants should not be shut down, but should be used until 2024 if necessary.”
