Germany: Negative record with 208,000 cases of coronavirus in 24 hours

Germany today set a new record for coronavirus cases with 208,498 new infections recorded in a 24-hour period, surpassing the barrier of ten million cases in total.

In comparison, on January 2, 12,515 new cases were recorded.

The seven-day incidence index also recorded a record -1,227.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants – as the highly transmitted Omicron variant spreads rapidly across the country.

In the last 24 hours, 196 people ended up with covid complications with which the total number of deaths from the disease amounted to 118,170.

Health Minister Carl Lauterbach estimates that the Omicron-caused pandemic wave will peak in mid-February and cause 400,000 new cases a day before they begin to decline, and has indicated the possibility of easing restrictions in late February or early March. the situation remains under control.
