German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his government see no wavering in support for sanctions against Russia, even though electricity bills are expected to jump further, a German government spokesman said on Monday.
“We have difficult months ahead of us,” said the spokesman, adding that “it is clear that we stand with dynamism on the side of Ukraine and support the sanctions that we all agreed upon within the framework of the European Union and the international community.”
Speaking at a scheduled press briefing in Berlin, the spokesman ruled out any revival of the aborted (though infrastructurally ready) Russian-German Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
