The Vice Chancellor and Minister of Finance Olaf Solts was confirmed a few hours ago as a candidate for Chancellor of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), in view of the September federal elections.
With 96.2% and 513 votes in favor, 20 against and 12 abstentions, Mr. Soltz was officially nominated today as the candidate for Chancellor of the SPD, in the context of a conference organized mainly online. His candidacy had already been proposed since last August, by the party leadership.
In his speech, Olaf Soltz repeatedly referred to his government experience, in indirect opposition to Green Party candidate Analena Berbock, who has no similar experience, and promised, among other things, a climate-neutral economy by 2045 and a minimum wage of 12. euros per hour from the first year of his term.
Referring to his opponents, he stressed that another government under the Christian Union (CDU / CSU) would pose a threat to German prosperity and jobs, recalled recent scandals involving Conservative party leaders and said his own plan was future-oriented and a “society of respect”.
