“Today we are starting!” Said the future Chancellor Olaf Soltz, during the signing of the Program Agreement by the parties of the new governing coalition.
The Social Democratic Party (SPD), the Greens and the Liberals (FDP) have chosen the Futurium Center, dedicated to ideas and technologies for the future, as the venue for the ceremony, in a symbolic move for the formal start of their collaboration. “From this week, we want to work for progress. We have no illusions, we are facing big challenges,” said FDP leader Christian Lindner, who will take over the finance ministry in the new government, while the Greens co-chair will be the new minister. Economics and Climate Policy and Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck stressed that “from today we are a government for the people in Germany, aiming for prosperity and climate neutrality, but we must first tackle the pandemic.”
Olaf Solz is expected to be elected Chancellor of the Exchequer by the Federal Parliament tomorrow, and soon after the members of the new government will receive the mandate of the Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
