Germany: Police shut down illegal $ 1.3 billion Russian dark web shopping site

German police have shut down the largest – as they described it – darknet market, the Hydra Market, seizing $ 25.2 million worth of Bitcoin, Bloomberg reported.

In particular, according to the Frankfurt Cybercrime Authority, the Russian-speaking Hydra Market platform was used for drug trafficking and money laundering, with sales of $ 1.3 billion in 2020 alone. Prosecutors also said they seized a total of 543 Bitcoin.

Hydra Market had approximately 17 million customer accounts and more than 19,000 vendor accounts and its server facilities were in Germany.

It is noted that last year the German police had closed the DarkMarket which was used by about half a million people for drug trafficking and cryptocurrencies.

The dark web or dark web, as it is widely known, is an anonymous web made up of dark networks, which are only accessible with specific software or licenses.
