Germany Prepares for War – Urges Citizens to Build Shelters, Launches Special App

As concerns over the spread of the war from Ukraine to Europe intensify after last week’s developments, Germany is compiling a list of shelters its residents could run to in an emergency. The list, the Guardian reports, will include underground train stations and car parks, as well as government buildings and private properties, according to a spokesman for the Home Office. A digital directory of shelters will be compiled so that citizens can quickly find them using an app that they can install on their mobile phones. The government is also encouraging people to build shelters in their homes, specifically in basements and garages. The ministry spokesman declined to give a timetable, saying it was a big project that would take some time and would involve the Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Relief and other authorities.
