It was an invitation-only party that of Social Democratic Party SPD which took place in the courtyard of the Berlin Chancellor a few days ago and in which Scholz himself took part. A traditional event in the summer months, which this year had a smaller number of participants than other editions, about a thousand. Yet something went wrong. According to what was revealed by the Berlin newspaper Tagesspiegelin a chat inside the party it emerged that some participants were drugged with GHB, a drug that in Italy is often referred to as “rape drug“.
Names (and nicknames) are almost never random: this substance is in fact liquid and tasteless and can be added to the glass of a possible victim, without fear of noticing it. Among the best known effects there is a great one disinhibition, euphoria, a sense of relaxation; if taken in massive quantities, however, it can induce loss of consciousness for many hours and when mixed with alcohol it can even be lethal. In short, it is not by chance that (again) elsewhere it is also called «KO drops», because in certain quantities it can literally spread an adult.
The number of women who for now would have reported having been drugged is not clear: some speak of 8, others of 9, including one confirmed with a toxicological test; a complaint against unknown persons immediately ensued. The sentences by politicians were not long in coming: among them, Katja Mast, parliamentary leader of the SPD, who wrote on Twitter “we are all horrified” and invited those who had not yet spoken to report the incident.
The success of GHB and the known cases in Italy
GHB has been enjoying growing success in recent years, also in Italy. It is used widely – and almost always consciously – in the context of the so-called chemsex, that is, the practice of sex under the influence of drugs. These are organized meetings, in which several people have sex for several hours thanks to the enhancement of performance (especially male erection) that GHB makes available.
The world of power and entertainment is not immune to the charm of this substance. In 2021 the name of the GHB had come out in the accusations made by two young Romanian boys in Luca Morisi, former communications manager of Matteo Salvini. Just Morisi, according to the statements of the boys, would have given him that drug.
Also one of the girls involved in the case he sees as a defendant Alberto Genovese for sexual assault she speculated in an interview that she was stunned by the entrepreneur with GHB. Accusation rejected by Genovese who, in the recent appearance before the judge – the prosecutors ask for him 8 years of imprisonment and a fine of 80 thousand euros -, declared that he did not use this substance, aware of its danger when it comes mixed with other drugs.
There is also an investigation that is trying to shed some light on the tour of GHB in the Roman upper class and that for now has also brought out the names of several politicians, although not under investigation. And recently this substance has returned to be talked about for the one year and four months sentence of the television host Ciro di Maio, found guilty of having a liter of GBL (a substance analogous to GHB) sent from the Netherlands. Di Maio stated that he did not order it to sell it or to use it in the course of parties, but for personal use due to drug addiction.
