Germany recorded this Wednesday (8) the highest number of deaths by Covid-19 since February, as it struggles to contain the fourth wave of the pandemic.
In the past 24 hours, 527 people have died from the disease, the highest since Feb. 12, reported the Robert Koch Institute of Public Health. Germany also recorded 69,601 new Covid-19 cases.
However, the incidence rate of infections in the country in seven days per 100,000 people continues to fall, decreasing to 427 this Wednesday.
Experts question whether the metric means Germany has surpassed the peak of this pandemic wave or whether the numbers are unreliable because some health officials are overwhelmed, especially in the worst-affected areas.
The country agreed last week to bar unvaccinated people from all but essential businesses, such as supermarkets, pharmacies and bakeries, and to increase the vaccination campaign.
