Germany registers more than 50,000 daily cases of Covid-19 for the first time

Germany registered this Thursday (11) the fourth consecutive day with daily record of Covid-19 cases, with 50,196 new infections in the last 24 hours. The country faces a new wave of coronavirus cases just before winter.

The total number of confirmed infections is 4.89 million and the total deaths increased from 235 to 97,198, according to the Robert Koch Institute of Public Health.

The institution reported an increase in the incidence rate of coronavirus in seven days – the number of people infected per 100,000 population – from 232 to 249.

The three German parties in talks to form a new government have agreed not to extend the state of emergency across the country, despite a fourth wave of infections.

Instead, they presented a bill that would change existing legislation to allow measures such as mandatory masks and social distancing in public spaces to continue to apply until March next year.

The proposal is expected to be presented to the Chamber of Deputies today and voted on in a special session next week.
