Russia’s ambassador to the European Union, Vladimir Tsizov, today ruled out the complete closure of the German-Russian Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline, Germany’s main supply line.
After reducing the flow of Russian gas through Nord Stream 1, Mr. Chizov, speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, said, according to the Russian newspaper Kommersant, that it is not ruled out that due to technical problems with the turbines, it may close. completely the pipeline supply line.
“I think this would be a disaster for Germany,” the Russian diplomat said, adding that Germany should consider repairing the turbines on its territory so that they do not have to be sent to Canada.
Earlier, Gazprom had cited delays in repairing the turbines to justify the cut, but the German side rejected it, with Economy Minister Robert Hubbek talking about a “political game” in Moscow.
Mr Habeck, however, assured that although the situation was serious, it did not endanger security of supply in Germany. By this morning, the flow restriction had reached 60%.
