Chancellor Olaf Solz assured the residents and authorities of Saarland of the federal government's solidarity with those affected by the heavy rains. Mr Scholtz, who visited Kleinblittersdorf earlier today, said the focus was now on providing immediate aid and added that when the emergency and danger subsided, “we will have to agree together what needs to be done to help those in need. We have a good practice of solidarity as, unfortunately, this is not the first time we have to deal with a major natural disaster,” the chancellor said and assured that “everyone can count on this happening in the best possible way.” Mr Scholz, together with Saarland Prime Minister Anke Rellinger, was due to take part in his party's election campaign event in Saarbrücken today, which was however canceled in order for the two politicians to visit the affected areas.
