Germany sends warship to Mediterranean to monitor arms embargo against Libya

Another ship sends to the Mediterranean at the end of the week Germany to participate in the EU mission to monitor the United Nations arms embargo against Libya.

About 220 soldiers will board the warship “Berlin”, as a representative of the Navy told the German Agency and broadcasts the AMPE. They will monitor cargo ships bound for Libya.

About 250 German soldiers took part in EU Operation Peace last year from August to December.

The EU operation began in May 2020 and aims to stabilize the war Libya and support for the UN-led political peace process. The operation is also being carried out to prevent oil smuggling.

Countries accused of violating the embargo include Turkey, Russia and the United Arab Emirates.
