The economic expectations index rose to -34.3 points in May from -41 points in April, higher than estimates for 44.5 points.

Experts expect the economic outlook to continue to deteriorate, but at a slower pace than previously expected, the ZEW chairman said.

Views on the current economic situation in Germany deteriorated again, with the index falling to -36.5 points in May from -30.8 points in April. Estimates spoke of a drop in the index to -35 points.
