Germany: SPD removes Gerhard Schroeder from list of ‘great Social Democrats’

The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), a major party in Germany’s three-party government that includes Chancellor Olaf Solz, has removed its former chancellor and former leader from the list of “major Social Democrats” over his stance on the Russian invasion of Russia. of his refusal to resign from his positions in the state-owned Russian energy companies.

According to the party leadership, “Gerhard Schroeder’s name does not fit into the current situation” and therefore was removed from the list of 34 major Social Democrats hosted on the party’s website. Now the “big social democrats” are 33. The party even withdrew the mugs with the name and face of the former chancellor from the SPD souvenir shop.

The leadership of the SPD has repeatedly called on Gerhard Schroeder to resign from his positions in the Russian companies Nord Stream 1 and 2 and Rosneft, while yesterday Chancellor Olaf Soltz asked for it directly, emphasizing that someone who was a chancellor and remains after the end of his term.
