Germany: Stricter entry rules from countries where there is an escalation of variations

The German government today decided to tighten entry rules for travelers from areas where there is an outbreak of variants of the main coronavirus strain.

From now on, anyone arriving in Germany from such an area will need, in addition to the vaccination certificate and a negative molecular diagnostic PCR test, the cabinet decided earlier today, in view of the upcoming wave of the “Omicron” variant. The regulation applies to any traveler over the age of 6 and comes in response to the L .nder request for a drastic response to the new wave. It currently covers countries in South Africa and the UK and even includes intermediate stops at a German airport. The test must not have been performed more than 48 hours after departure and, in addition, since vaccination against Covid-19 and children from 5 years of age is now possible, the obligation to present a vaccination certificate now applies to children from 6 years of age. The aim is to detect as many cases as possible in a timely manner, according to the relevant decision of the cabinet.
