Germany: Tens of thousands of people protested against far-right policies

Thousands of people took part in a march on Saturday Berlin to express their support for an “open and harmonious society” and to condemn its policies far right in Germany.

A wide front of unions, parties, non-governmental organizations and other collectives, calling themselves Unteilbar (“Undefeated”) called for this mobilization in the center of the German capital yesterday afternoon.

Police initially estimated that there were fewer than 10,000 participants in the march. A spokesman for the organizers, for his part, estimated that about 30,000 people had demonstrated.

The “Undefeated” movement includes about 350 organizations and collectives from various sectors of German society: trade unions, human rights organizations such as Amnesty International, the youth ecological movement Fridays for the Future, etc.

The movement says it was formed to promote “solidarity, social justice, human rights” and “real action to tackle the climate crisis”.

The demonstration took place three weeks before parliamentary elections were held in Germany.
