Germany: The domestic car industry produces 700,000 fewer cars

According to a media report, German carmakers will be able to produce about 700,000 fewer cars this year than planned earlier this year due to spare parts problems, Handelsblatt reports. The industry newspaper “Automobilwoche” reported citing data from the IHS service provider Markit.

The VW brand was particularly affected, losing more than half a million units this year. Mercedes had a deficit of 80,000 scheduled vehicles at the end of the year, BMW even 100,000.

The VW group focuses on its premium brands, which generate greater profit margins. Production at Porsche is increasing, while at Audi it is decreasing slightly.

The VW brand, which had received more than 500,000 orders, was the one that suffered. “We are doing everything in our power to stabilize production for the rest of the year, despite the existing blockages in supply parts, so that we can deliver the vehicles to customers as soon as possible,” a VW spokesman told newspaper “Automobilwoche”. However, all forecasts are subject to further restrictions on the supply chain due to the war in Ukraine and the blockade of Corona in China.
