Wednesday (14/04) included several developments regarding digital vaccination certificate. Regarding the Germany, this will be ready before the summer holidays and will be compatible with the certificate processed by the European Union.
According to a telegram from the German News Agency (dpa), citing government sources, the certificate will be in the form of an application for “smart” mobile phones and will allow its holder to prove quickly and without the possibility of forgery that he has been fully vaccinated, in order to be able to exercise again some basic rights, such as e.g. to travel for vacation.
According to the information of the agency and as relayed by the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency, the certificate will not be stored on a central server, but on the user’s phone. Those who do not have a device of this technology, will receive, in addition to the registration in the common vaccination certificate, a print on paper with the QR code. With this code the certificate can be recovered, even if someone loses or changes their “smart” mobile phone.
Digital certificates will be issued by vaccination centers and clinics, where vaccinations are already carried out, while the government is also looking for a solution to the issue of issuing a certificate retroactively, for those who will have already been vaccinated before the introduction of the digital certificate.
In addition, it is being investigated whether complete recovery from coronavirus could be assessed as complete protection, similar to that offered by vaccination. This, it is pointed out, depends on the results of the relevant research.
The German digital certificate will be created by the American IBM, in collaboration with the Cologne start-up Ubirch, the computer company Bechtle and the cooperative association of ten IT service providers of the public sector Govdigital.
The system will be programmed as an open source and transparent project, as will the coronavirus warning application already used in Germany.
It is reminded that, The Council of Europe has taken a position on the vaccination certificate under negotiation.
