The first candidate for chancellor in their history will be announced today by the Greens, in view of the federal parliamentary elections in September. The choice is expected to be made by the party presidency between the two leaders, the Analena Berbock and his Robert Hubeck.
The Greens have so far not anointed a candidate for chancellor. Campaigns were usually led by the two leaders of the party’s parliamentary group. However, their impressive performances in the polls over the past two years now make it necessary to choose the executive who will lead a possible government led by the Greens. The possibility of forming a governing coalition e.g. from the Greens, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Left no longer seem such an unlikely prospect.
The two co-chairs have expressed their desire to be anointed, with the recent polls bringing Mr. Habeck a little higher in the preferences of the citizens than Mrs. Burbok, reports AMPE.
In the latest “Political Barometer” of the ZDF, 29% consider Robert Hubeck more suitable for the post of chancellor, while 24% prefer Analena Berbock.
However, in terms of the party’s performance, 42% believe that it will be better with a candidate for chancellor in the first, while 29% give their trust in the second.
Party supporters appear divided, with 44% believing that the Greens will have better luck with Co-Chair Burbok and 43% preferring Mr Hubbek.
