The willingness of German businesses to hire new staff has been hit again, the Ifo institute said.
The German institute’s employment barometer fell to 101.1 in July from 103.3 in June. Businesses are still planning to hire new staff, although they have become more cautious in their staffing planning due to the current high level of uncertainty, the Ifo pointed out.
In manufacturing, the Ifo employment barometer eased slightly again, but there is still a strong need for hiring, particularly in the automotive and electrical industries.
In the services sector, the index fell markedly, Ifo said. “The hospitality industry in particular has hit the brakes on new hires,” the report said.
