Germany: The Minister calls for a reduction of energy consumption by 10%. Economy

The German government wants to get rid of Russian oil and gas – which is why it is calling on all Germans to save energy.

Economy Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) calls on all German citizens to immediately reduce energy consumption by 10%.

For example, Habeck suggested to the Funke newspapers that people could leave their cars at home at Easter and take bicycles and trains.

These are not the only suggestions for saving energy. Habeck’s confidant, Klaus Miller, 51, a former Green minister and recently head of the Federal Networking Network, has more suggestions on how German citizens should change their lives.

For example, Müller proposed a ban on the sauna, speaking to the newspaper “Zeit”.

Müller also wants restrictions on individuals (eg young people, retirees): If energy becomes even more scarce, the full heating of individual multi-room apartments “can no longer be justified under any circumstances”.

The Germans need to warm up less in general. According to Müller, a maximum of 19 points. Exceptions: children’s rooms, apartments with patients and people in need of care.

Millions of Germans will also have to change their shower habits. Müller doubts whether it is really necessary to take a shower every day.

The Germans are supposed to change their lives because energy (gas, oil) becomes scarce and expensive. The continued operation of the nuclear power plants could bring relief – but Hubeck rejects that!

FDP economist Reinhard Huben, 61, is therefore outraged: “It is not the job of the state to push people to a wedding or a shared apartment just to save electricity.”

“Every citizen should be able to decide for themselves,” CDU energy expert Fabian Gramling, 35, told BILD. “Telling people how warm their bedroom should be sounds like despair.”
