In view of the election of the Federal President on February 13, 2022, the parties are already proposing the personalities who will participate, in addition to the deputies, in the body of electors, the Federal Assembly.
The Greens’ parliamentary group in Berlin nominated prominent infectious disease specialist Christian Drosten, head of the Infectious Diseases Department at Charité University Hospital, while the Greens in Hesse nominated microbiologist Sandra Tsizek from Franz. Both scientists became well known in German public opinion during the pandemic.
The Social Democratic Party (SPD) of Bavaria nominated international footballer Leon Goretska, who spoke of “great honor” and stressed that “as the invitation came from – as of today – SPD co-chair Lars Klingbail, I could not refuse.” The Christian Democratic Party (CDU) and the Liberals (FDP) are expected to announce their own voters next week.
In the past, members of the Federal Assembly had been, among others, the former federal coach of the National Team of Greece, Otto Rehgel, and the former coach of the German national team, Joachim Lev.
