The fixed numbers of new cases of Covid-19 in Germany fuel the hopes that the Intensive Care Units they will not be overloaded, the head of the German Hospital Association (DKG) told the Bild newspaper.
“Most hospitals in Germany feel a first, mild relaxation,” said Gerald Gus.
“We have been seeing relatively stable numbers of new infections for about two weeks now, which makes us feel confident that we should not worry about an exponential increase in the number of patients in intensive care units.”
Bild writes that 5,019 patients with new coronavirus are currently being treated in intensive care units in Germany, a number lower than the peak of 5,106 on April 19, amid the third wave of the pandemic.
However, Gus stressed that the pressure on hospitals and staff remains very high.
