Germany: Two-week quarantine for UK travelers over Omicron mutation

THE Germany will impose a quarantine on travelers from the UK from midnight on Sunday to Monday and will require a negative test to enter the country, the Robert Koch Institute announced.

Local health ministries called on the federal government on Saturday to introduce stricter rules for arrivals from Britain, where Omicron mutation has triggered a wave of infections.

THE Great Britain is now considered the “variation zone” of Covid-19, ie it enters the category of countries from which the risk is higher. This means that all travelers, even those vaccinated, will be quarantined for two weeks upon arrival.

“The spread of Omicron in the United Kingdom is obvious. “We must stop the spread for as long as we can and slow it down as much as possible,” the ministers said in a statement.

Only German citizens or foreigners permanently residing in Germany will be allowed to enter the country from Britain. The rule applies to all means of transport.

For the past three days Britain has been recording daily infections and on Friday the cases exceeded 90,000 in 24 hours. Infections rose sharply in Germany in October and November, but began to decline slowly in early December and 50,968 new cases were reported on Friday.
